Trump: ‘Unacceptable’ McConnell, Senate GOP unable to pass health care bill

President Donald Trump said Friday it was unacceptable that Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and fellow Senate Republicans were unable to pass legislation to repeal the Affordable Care Act in recent weeks, offering another sharp rebuke of the GOP leader.

"What happened, in my opinion, last week is unacceptable," Trump said when asked about Republican efforts to repeal Obamacare while addressing reporters in Bedminster, N.J., on Friday.

The president, who has repeatedly dinged McConnell in recent weeks for his failure to push the GOP’s major legislative items through the Senate since Trump entered office, again cast the Republicans’ inability to fulfill their longstanding promise to take down former President Barack Obama’s signature health care law as a failure.

"People have been talking about repeal-and-replace for seven years, long before I ever decided to be doing what I’m doing," Trump said. "Seven years they’ve been talking repeal-and-replace and it didn’t happen. And not only didn’t happen, it was a surprise, and it was a horrible surprise."

The president added that he was "not impressed" by congressional efforts on health care.
