President Donald Trump, at a rally Thursday evening, blasted Democrats for their “fixation” on the ongoing investigations into Russian election meddling and alleged ties to his campaign, urging them to focus instead on winning over American citizens at the voting booth.
“The reason why Democrats only talk about the totally made-up Russia story is because they have no message, no agenda and no vision,” the president told supporters at a rally in Huntington, W.Va.
He continued: “Democrat lawmakers will have to decide: They can continue their obsession with the Russian hoax or they serve the interest of the American people. Try winning at the voter booth.”
The president’s campaign team, which is currently facing congressional and federal investigations into possible collusion with Russian officials, has dismissed any connections with the foreign power.
Trump, who has refused to publicly acknowledge the Russian interference, even though the intelligence agrees that it happened, continued to cast the issue as a non-story Thursday.
“The Russia story is a total fabrication,” he said. “It’s just an excuse for the greatest loss in the history of American politics. It just makes them feel better when they have nothing to talk about."
