House Republicans won’t curtail August recess

House GOP leaders told lawmakers Wednesday morning that the chamber has no plans to stay in session for the August recess at this time — but would return from the break if the Senate passes its bill to repeal Obamacare.

House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy told members in a closed door conference room that there was no point in sticking around without something concrete to work on, according to sources in the room.

However, the California Republican said he would call members back to Washington within 72 hours of the Senate passing a health care bill to clear the legislation for the president’s signature.
