Economy added 222,000 jobs in June

The economy added 222,00 jobs in June, the Labor Department reported Friday, up from 152,000 in May.

The unemployment rate was 4.4 percent, a slight uptick from 4.3 percent in May.

Analysts had predicted the creation of 170,000 jobs, an unemployment rate of 4.3 percent, and an increase in over-the-year hourly earnings of 2.6 percent.
