Spicer: I haven’t talked to Trump about whether Russia is behind election meddling

White House press secretary Sean Spicer said Tuesday he has not spoken with President Donald Trump about whether or not he accepts the U.S. intelligence community’s conclusion that Russia attempted to meddle in the presidential election last year.

“I have not sat down and asked him about the specific reaction,” Spicer told reporters at the afternoon press briefing in the White House. “I’d be glad to touch base with him and get back to you.”

Trump has previously acknowledged publicly that Russia is believed to be behind the cyberattacks on Democratic Party officials and Hillary Clinton’s campaign last year. But he had repeatedly raised doubts about the intelligence community’s conclusion, alarming some lawmakers and many experts.

Trump has also repeatedly denied that any of his associates colluded with the Russian government’s suspected attempts to influence the election through the cyberattacks, the subject of an ongoing federal investigation.

And though his lawyer denies it, Trump is also reportedly under investigation by special counsel Robert Mueller, who, according to news reports, is looking into whether the president obstructed justice by firing former FBI director James Comey when he was overseeing the Russia probe.
