Republican National Committee Chairwoman Ronna Romney McDaniel on Sunday called for an end to congressional investigations into whether President Donald Trump’s campaign colluded with Russia.
“The Democrats have a playbook. We know it: It’s resist, obstruct,” she told Chris Wallace on “Fox News Sunday.” “Now it’s, throw doubt on the administration, open as many investigations as possible, cloud the administration as much as possible, because they’re trying to run out the clock on 2018.”
“I’m calling for an end to the investigations about President Trump’s campaign colluding with Russians,” she said. “There’s been no evidence of it. I don’t think that should continue.”
Both the House and Senate Intelligence Committees have launched such investigations. But she said, so far, no one has come forward with any evidence of collusion during the 2016 presidential campaign.
“The American people want it to stop,” McDaniel said. “It needs to end.”
McDaniel said the special counsel’s investigation will “run its course” but that it should “end quickly.” She said FBI James Comey’s testimony showed that Trump had not obstructed justice because he’d never directly asked to stop the investigation.
“To me that’s no obstruction,” she said. “This is a fishing expedition to try to run out the clock for the Democrats. American people want it to stop. It needs to end.”
