Democrat Jon Ossoff raised $15 million in the last two months leading up to Georgia’s special House election, bringing his overall fundraising total to $23 million, a massive sum for a House candidate.
Ossoff’s campaign touted that the average contribution to his campaign was $20.49. Spending in the race has topped $40 million, shattering the record for the most expensive House race in history.
In the lead up to the all-party primary, Ossoff raised more than $8 million. The $15 million sum, driven by intense online fundraising, came in from March 30 through the end of May.
Republican Karen Handel’s team has not yet released her fundraising numbers. In the pre-primary report in April, Handel raised just under $500,000. Handel, who’s run for several statewide offices, has struggled in the past with fundraising.
The Atlanta Journal Constitution first reported Ossoff’s fundraising totals.
