Kellyanne Conway denies that she dislikes Trump

White House counselor Kellyanne Conway on Tuesday denied a cable news report that she dislikes President Donald Trump and only works for him for the pay.

“My beliefs, commitments and loyalties are plain to see,” she said in a statement posted to Twitter on Tuesday, specifically denying that she chose to work for Trump for financial reasons. “It is a privilege to assist President Trump in the White House, just as it was during the campaign.”

“I know him, I respect him, I believe in him, and I am confident in his capacity to be a transformative and successful president,” she added.

While she did not directly rebut all the specifics in her statement, Conway was responding to on-air commentary from the hosts of MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” on Monday. Mika Brzezinski claimed that Conway would privately complain about Trump after her TV appearances when she was his campaign manager.

“She would get off the air, the camera would be turned off, the microphone would be taken off, and she would say, ‘Blech, I need to take a shower,’ because she disliked her candidate so much,” Brzezinski said.

Co-host Joe Scarborough claimed Conway would describe the campaign as something she needed to “get through.”

“I don’t know that she ever said, ‘I’m doing this for the money,’ but she said, ‘This is just my summer vacation, my summer in Europe,’” Scarborough said. “And, basically, ‘I’m just gonna get through this.’”

Conway dismissed Brzezinski and Scarborough in her statement as “virulent critics of the president and those close to him.”
